Winning piece of the contest SóLODOS EN DANZA / Costa Rica / 2018. One Hit Wonder is a ‘retro space’ where pop referents of the 90s and early 2000 are translated into body, choreography and movements reconverted and inspired by GIFs and Boomerangs, two of the most common forms of virtual communication today. One Hit Wonder is a choreographic investigation that looks into the influence music videos, songs and TV programmes had on the ways of dancing of the generations that grew up during those years and that are the same ones that today communicate using GIFs and other similar graphic formats.
Carla Segovia is a dancer, choreographer and teacher. Graduate in Contemporary Dance and certified in Danzaterapia by CID-UNESCO. She has been a formal member of several dance companies, such as Nucleodanza, Contradanza and Sensodanza. She is currently working for Colectivo Querido Venado. Carla also codirectrs 44 Grados: Encuentro de Danza Emergente, in Tampico (Mexico). Guillermo Aguilar is a dancer and choreographer. He directs Colectivo Querido Venado, with which he has been selected to participate in different festivals in Mexico, Cuba, Chile and Argentina. He has worked with stage directors like Alicia Sánchez, Juan Domínguez Rojo, Benito González and Alejandra Ramírez. Since 2014, he also directs an emerging arts meeting in Mexico City.
